I have always enjoyed monoprinting and especially creating 'ghost' images using feathers and string.
The fine detail of the feathers in these prints and the sense of lightness and floating are things I love about them.
A number of the prints have been sold, I have given away one or two, and have recently scanned some of the images and used them as a background for a wee book called Flight.
It's a sweet little thing, feels good in the hand and also continues that sense of lightness I think.
I photographed it today outside on the driveway.

I love that this is photographed on the driveway - so grounded - such an anchor -- a lovely foil for the content
ReplyDeleteThanks Ronnie. I looked for places to photograph it being light or drifting or flying and decided in the end that the earth was a good place to rest it; to be grounded.

DeleteWhat a gorgeous book Fiona. Did you run the monoprint through the printer once dry to get the text? I fail every time I try to manipulate text in different directions so I am doubly impressed with this but the print is lovely on its own. So fragile.Just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHi Leslie nothing as clever as that. I scanned the print and printed it a few times, then ran the prints thru the printer. I used Word for the words but discovered you have to do it in portrait and have the words run vertically and horizontally in order to get them facing the right way. Now NONE of what I said just now makes sense I'm sure; but I am more than happy to send more lucid descriptions via email if so desired!

DeleteYour lovely book looks like an element from nature, a leaf that fell off an unknown tree or a magical pebble. It belongs there and, if it flew away, it would become a bird or a buttefly. Language and art and nature in one.

ReplyDeleteThanks Liz - I love how the ghost appears - the original print is a silhouette and quite fascinating in its own right; but the fine textures left behind in the plate when I gently lift the feather and string off are certainly favourites of mine.
