Thursday Thoughts...

Make your work.
Make your work constantly.
Love it.
Hate it.
But make it.

Stephanie Diamond via ArtPropelled

Quite some time ago I came across this quote on Robyn's blog and tucked it away.  As we near the beginning of a new year, my mind turns very much to how the year will play out; what things I will do, where I will go, and how I will use my precious time.

This quote is a great reminder that in order to achieve things, in order to live and be in an artistic way; you have to keep making it. You can't just sit around and dream it, you have to do it; the more you do the better you become; the more you understand yourself and the clearer your own voice becomes.

The more you do, the more you realise what you are trying to say; the more you find exceptional ways with which to say it.  There are no shortcuts, there is just the making and the doing.

The making and the doing teach you so much.

So on the cusp of a new year I hope to remember this; to keep making and doing; to keep discovering by making and doing; to learn more about me and what I do - by making and doing.

  1. Indeed, we do have to remind ourselves constantly, don't we?! I've enjoyed your thoughts, wrapped round Stephanie's quote.... gift wrapped :-)
(Thanks for the mention. I think I found it on Judy Martin's blog. It's a good one to pass along).

  5. I so agree, I just keep making, doing, drawing, printing, sewing; it's such a big part of my life now. Some ideas work, some don't. One today did which will take me in a new direction- exciting!

  6. I'm afraid I do far too much of the dreaming and far too little of the making! Head in the clouds. Good to have role models like yourself to remind me to get on with it. Hope your New Year is a very creative, satisfying and productive one.

    1. I love the dreaming and thinking time too Robyn, but have come to realize that nothing actually happens until I begin making! Laugh. I often put myself to sleep plotting and planning new ideas and have trouble recalling their amazing ness in the morning. Still. May 2014 ring much creativity to us all.

  7. I think I'm in a love/hate moment right now but I do try to tilt the scales towards 'love'. You're absolutely right, making is our way of being. Happy new year, Fiona!

    1. It's always tough when you spend time there Ersi, but little by little making seems to find its way though. Hope the bird of creativity perches on your shoulder and stays alongside you in 2014.
