Peace persisting

A few weeks on from International Day of Peace, it is nice to know that some of the peace weather-grams and doves are still holding dreams of peace.

The winds have been pretty strong at times so I have been amazed to wake and see them flying still; however they took a battering on the weekend and only one or two still fly...

The tradition of remnant string continues - perhaps there will be years of string on the barbed wire, like there is on the tree in Maleny...

We did manage to rescue most of them however; and they are now greeting us at our front door.

And the doves and weather grams and rocks have been used by folk to leave wee gifts at our door...

Here, Karen from Coast Coffee had gifted Barry some sea glass for him to take back and use in something...

Lovely.

Lucas Parklands 12 & 13 June 2010

We are now beginning to get the advertising and promotion machine going for the exhibition in Lucas Parklands on 12 and 13 June.  Some great artists are coming together - glass, fabric, metal, timber, paper, wood and ceramics will all feature in artworks that will be dotted through the rainforest walk.

Kirsten has done a great job with our flyers...and we are about to get them out, about and everywhere!

If you are in Brisbane or on the Sunshine Coast or nearby put the date in your diaries - it will be truly beautiful.

I did enjoy attending this show and seeing where people's creativity was taking them.  It was a bit tricky to navigate your way around as there was no catalogue and nothing about the works or artists except for what was on the labels next to each book.

We were able to take photos without a flash; so my only way of recording things I liked and their makers was to photograph the label as well!

Reflecting afterwards I was surprised in a way to find that the books I liked the most were not all made of paper. Although given my recent diversions into metal and fabric I probably shouldn't have been. I was probably more surprised to see that a number that I really responded to were concertina books; which is very weird because I hardly ever make them!

I really loved this work on glass by Kristin McFarlane of Victoria, called Picture book. The way that glass allows for the layering of images; her use of text and the manner in which the pages were linked by a unifying design that flowed across them made it very appealing.

This piece on etched copper by Antonietta Covino-Beehre, also of Victoria called Dedication - dedi'KaSHen was also wonderful - the colours and images worked beautifully together.
