Thursday Thoughts...

“Feelings are just visitors, let them come and go.”

Mooji

I don't know the work of Mooji, spiritual leader, but this is a phrase that resonates with my response to quite a few situations.

I think he does a good job of validating feelings - too often feelings are dismissed as not helpful, or too emotional, or distracting. Yet feelings are real. You experience them. They happen to you.

And I guess the question is then what to do with them.

I often times say it's OK to be angry, to go there, to visit. Just don't live there. And this quote is similar to that idea of letting feelings go. Don't let them sit there and fester. Validate them, acknowledge them and then let them go.

That works for negative feelings for sure; but I then wondered if it worked for ALL feelings, including the great ones.  Perhaps it does, just not as strongly, because really none of us can afford to live our lives in high alt or constant elation. They are not feelings that can last, or be expected to last, so we should probably also accept that those great feelings may just come and go as well.

Good advice for life I think.

Some very welcome visitors... coming and going.
