A table-eye view

As I was working on the collaborative book last week I was trying to take photos of different elements.

I put the camera down on the table whilst the lens was still open and saw what it could see - a jumble of a mess on my working table.

I thought it looked quite interesting from that angle and so I took a few more.

You have to laugh - you can see by the chaos surrounding me that I was trying almost everything I had to hand in an effort to work my way through the book!

I'm sure other people's desks are much tidier than mine.

  1. You call that chaos? You call that mess? Come on over to my crazy corner of the world and you'll see chaotic mess. This is organised art! It even looks dangerous. Which is highly desirable. ;)

    1. Oh Louise - you made me laugh out loud when I read that! I feel so much better now that I know I have organised art! Laugh. I'm a bit fearful of re-entering the studio and having to deal with my mess I must say...

    1. I'm glad to hear it Ronnie - there was this little oasis right in front of me that was clear - everything else was within arm's reach for easy access. I'm glad we all make a bit of a mess as we get into things. go well.

  3. Love the views! And no, not all work tables are neater than yours at the moment. Mine is at least as jumbled and full. Your table is actually acting as a working work table while mine is acting as a repository at the moment.

    1. It was a really interesting view of things j - just took me by surprise. I know that filing by piling feeling - that if I can see it I won't forget it, and if it's on a surface that's better than being in a cupboard...I have some surface clearing to do myself. Still it means we're into things right?

  4. I'm often pretty messy during a project, but then cleaninga and clearing gets me set up mentally for the next thing.

    1. Thanks Valerianna. It does make a difference to clear up and tidy up before a new project doesn't it? Almost cleansing the space and saying OK, off we go on the new thing.

  5. I know your 'mess' is really the workings of something gorgeous, I can't wait to see what you come up with.

    1. Thanks for your kindness Jane - the mess did eventually produce something worthwhile, thank goodness. I'll show it properly over the weekend I hope.

  6. Fiona this reminds me of those games when you have to guess what things are when they're taken from an unusual angle! What are those intriguing red blocks please? I'm trying to figure out if they're ink pads or wax blocks or something. I probably should not be so nosy but those tantalising glimpses of things pique my interest and I just have to know!

    1. Hi Lesley - so true! Those blocks are actually weights. I bought them years ago for dressmaking instead of pinning the pattern to the fabric you could weight it with these and just cut. I now use them to hold books, pages etc down on occasions. Mystery solved. Go well!

  7. Studio clutter means things are happening and that is always a joy!

  9. Love your desk (and your work).Strangely I've just recently, a week or so ago posted a photo of my desk and it seems many of us have more in common than we thought.

    1. Thanks Jack - I'm off to check out your desk! I think mess works for most of us on our way thru - but I do feel better starting a new piece with a clean desk. My next chore I think...
