Around the place...

Work-work and bathroom repair/renovations have certainly kept me from the studio for what seems aeons.   I have nothing new to show or share, but took this photo yesterday afternoon as the sun set. The light beamed through one window, across the dining room and onto this wall, perfectly illuminating this painting. I walked out of the office and this is what I saw.

Moments like that remind you that nature does art even if you don't.

So I wandered around and photographed a few more moments around the place - quite a mixed bag. It is Spring time and definitely warming up, and the orchids in the book wall are blooming.

We found a nest down the back and brought it inside. I can never look at a nest without awe and wonder at how beautifully crafted they are.

As I look out the kitchen window (you get loads of reflections from the back windows) I see how well the wall is rusting, and I glimpse the peace flag weather grams still blowing in the breeze at the top of the driveway.

I mentioned renovations. Barry asked the builders to keep an eye out for something or somebody in the wall cavity. I had heard scrabbling noises in there a while ago and knew that somebody was making a life in there. The builders found this desiccated water dragon lizard.  Sadly it must have run out of food in there, and not been able to work out how it got in and therefore how to get out.  It looks very much like a wee Tyrannosaurus I thought.

And this one is from a week or so ago. Our Pace rainbow flag was hung on the wall of the shed/studio carport, and as I walked to the car I saw this great reflection.

I like the random rainbow of peace...

Hopefully we'll be back to normal art-making transmission soon!

    1. Thanks Mo - it was the most precious find. The builders probably think I was a bit weird about it, but they also appreciated it!

    1. It certainly was Valerianna! I love that it appeared so unexpectedly - and beautifully. A wander around our place is always full of random things I must admit.

    1. When we manage to get our orchids to flower - I always smile. My dad grows them in abundance and I feel mightily inferior to his wonders. And isn't that wee water dragon precious...

  6. These tiny moments can often take your breath away. All you need is to be aware.

  7. You would love a book I found all about the value of observation in the smallest things. I'll dig it out and send you the title. You have an artist's eye for the glorious things that others miss. My favourite photo is the sunlight on that painting. I can feel the warmth from here!

    1. I loved that image when I wandered out from the office - it seemed so perfect just by being what it was. That book sounds like the kind of thing I would enjoy for sure - and its so nice when others understand why you stopped to photograph a rainbow on a car window...it is warming up here but not completely committed yet! Go well.

  8. Nature can give such extraordinary moments. Yours here are a great pleasure - especially the peace flag stripes projected onto your car. These moments of light are often so fleeting. Out with a friend yesterday, we got caught in a torrential shower which produced the brightest autumn colour and a tiny rainbow - gone before I could set my new i-phone to the task to photograph it, though I tried.

    1. So true Charlton Barry was in the kitchen, I went to show him what I photographed (the sunlight on the picture) and then went back and it had already shifted to the left and didn't frame it perfectly - I love that I was there for that very moment...and lucky that the iPhone was handy! Always a bit frustrating when you can't get the technology together in time! When that happens I try just to be in the moment and remember it beauty...go well.

  9. Oh, goodness, it has been much too long since I had a good blog-browsing session - so much I have missed! Sorry to be commenting so late after the fact, but I just had to say how wonderful to see these little snippets that happen between studio work - and that last image blew me away. "Art" is always happening, isn't it?
