Another journey-book

I have had these pages lying about in the studio for over a year now. They were an experiment, a test and a bit of a play for me who rarely picks up a brush to paint anything (altho I am enjoying painting the shed).

About two months ago, I found them and decided to chop them in half. And then left them there for a while again.  So I picked them up recently, thought about how they could work as a book, thought about some words I could write, and wrote some pages to make them a book.

I wrote "We exist in relation to others, especially the important people in our lives, and their losses leave us untethered and no longer sure where our point on the map is now".

I wrote modern versals with black ink, and then used a fine black waxed linen thread to do a coptic binding.

  3. ~sometimes the most beautiful pieces of art emerge from being left alone...those that have been forgotten for a moment in time...can be found and turned into exquisite pieces...the quote you chose to incorporate...the words written to fill within in these pages are moving...makes one pause and think...to imagine a world in which we did not have such connections...confined we would be to quietness of the day...but to have the gift of friends to fill our days...connecting and filling our spirits greatly...a blessings above and beyond...to have a choice to surround ourselves with such kindred souls that keep our hearts and minds full rather than empty and tied down to loneliness...a gift...so if one was to lose one...yes their loss would be felt deeply within...maybe i am off in my own thoughts of how i percieve such quote...the joy though of being an individual and having our own thoughts right...hehehe...beautiful book my friend...you have left me to ponder these words this day...much love light and blessings~

  4. Beautiful! Isn't it interesting how the time must be just right for things to come to fruition!

  5. Ronnie - sometimes the time is just right for something; and it's nice when you recognise it!
Anna - thank you I think sometimes the wait allows the bibs and bobs to come together...
FW - yes ther are several layers and stories aren't there and the idea of the pages laying fallow until ready; and the connectedness of us all are two lovely ones.
TT/G & Patti - thank you both; this idea of ripening when ready is emerging all over the place!
Amanda - I like the colours too; gentle and supportive of eachother

  6. Fiona,
Proof, if proof were needed, that you sometimes have to wait a long time for work to speak for itself and tell you what needs to happen next. This was definitely worth the wait. A lovely, lovely book.Lesley

  7. Perhaps a lesson in patience and waiting for me Lesley as you are right to have forced it earlier would not have been so good...

  8. Untethered is beautiful Fiona! I love that it took time and deliberate neglect before it came together. The text, painted backgrounds and your lettering are wonderful.

  9. Thank you Jane - its nice to learnt that things have their own time; their right time and that just because its doesn't seem right at one point doesn't mean that it won't be right some time later!
