Wheels within wheels...

We hosted a wedding at our home a few months back and the groom and many of the guests were road cyclists.  These men really love their bikes and will ride literally hundreds of miles and think it is fun. An interesting definition.

A few weeks back, the now husband and wife dropped by with a box of "cassettes" which look to me like the different sorts of gears or cogs a bike uses.

They thought that Barry might be able to find a use for these ones which had been handed in to the bike shop as being old, worn and used.  We don't know if they will rust or if they will stay shiny, but they are nonetheless very good things to have around just in case!

I walked past them in their box the other day, with camera at hand, and what else could have happened but...

  1. What gorgeous/cooperative/photogenic subjects these turned out to be! You captured some beautiful compositions, Fiona... (And I spot lots of potential for ALaW's 'going dotty' alphabet - it's hard not to notice after keeping my eyes open for circles & dots all year.)

    1. Funny how you start seeing the things that are now in your consciousness isn't it Lisa? These are great and I could have spent far longer photographing them!

  2. Oooh! They can rust. I've seen artists here in the States using rusty bike chains, etc. to create sculptures. Think of the fun you and Barry will have!

    1. Hi J - yes we did look at them with eyes of delight! It's nice to have them around and play with them and begin to imagine what they might be or become...

  3. Fabulous photos. Can see all sorts of images if the parts rust a little!

    1. Thanks Susan - the shapes are divine aren't they? Fingers crossed for rusting capability...

  4. These are beautiful, but it's the pink which makes them particularly scrumm-diddly-umptious.

    1. Thanks Olga - I love your use of the word scrumm-diddly-umptious and know exactly what you mean! I went back in to see the pink - and you're right it really does make a difference! Thanks again!

  5. What arresting photos Fiona, the sort that you can stare at for hours and hours picking a shape and then following the outline round and round in ever decreasing circles.... for chance photos, will they lead you to something else?

  6. Thanks Lesley - they are quite involved and intricate in their own way aren't they? I am not sure where they might be headed; but expect the imagery will form the basis of something; even if the cogs/gears/cassettes are used by B.
