Thursday Thoughts...

"Balance is beautiful"

Miyoki Ohno

In the midst of moving chaos this one appeals not only for art; but also for life!  However it is art that I am pondering today, and I do like balance in art.

I don't think that balance means that everything is symmetrical and equal; it feels to me as if it means that the goes with that and that they create harmony.

Sometimes tension is good in art - it makes you pay attention and can jar you into action.  But balance creates a whole, it makes something completed, unified.  When things are in balance you don't think work is unfinished or that "it just needs something else".

It simply is.

I love that people pay attention to the balance in things - getting a work just right so that it is coherent and harmonious.

Sigh.

  1. (((Fiona))) you and Barry are very good at the balancing act, Old Man Crow spins plates as an analogy for the dance of art and life, spinning one plate is easy, two is too but then with three or four or more the dance gets quite intricate & a bit frantic... keeping a sense of humour holds it all together to start again when they all start spinning out!

    1. So true Mo, so true! I am loving the spinning plate analogy. Out of control there are 6 or so; but a dance when there are 2 or 3. Lucky for us our plates are reducing in number! Go well.
