Following on from my annual review and our annual planning around life and art, I recently approached the State Library of Queensland about a couple of books.
I asked if they would be interested in
A Place Among the Clouds;
On Joy; and
I grow still...
On a visit to GOMA with friends a week or two ago I was able to drop the books off to the Library for appraisal (the buildings are next door neighbours). By the time I got home I had an email with the happy news that they would like like to purchase all three and add them to their collection!
I was thrilled.
The paperwork is underway - making sure I provide enough detail for anybody who may ever 'borrow' them or wish to examine them; and also for the Librarians who need to know how best to store and protect them in perpetuity.
It is such an honour to be included in this collection - it is a truly fine collection and one of (I actually think the) best artists' book collections in Australia. Happy dance!
congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThanks Renate! It is nice that they have such a lovely home...
DeleteSo pleased for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tac. My work is so niche, it feels good to know they have found place that is just right for them; a bit Goldilocks! Go well.
DeleteI love "going" to the State Library of Queensland to look up your books in their holdings ... it's becoming quite a substantial collection!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to you and to them!
Love that you visit the SLQ Liz! It is a fascinating collection, lots of variety and really good works. The wonders of the world we live in, and the times we live in that enable you to, thanks for visiting!
DeleteWow, a trifecta of beautiful books for a great collection, congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mo! It did feel a bit like a trifecta win you're right!
DeleteCongratulations! These works are truly worthy to be in the collection of best artist books. I love their simple elegance.
ReplyDeleteThank you Susan - I do love their quiet gentle elegance...
DeleteThat’s fantastic! I’m still really sad that SLQ made the decision to only add QLD artists in the future to what is a fabulous national collection, but it’s great to see that they’re making good choices :) xx
ReplyDeleteThanks you C! I am not sure how that is playing - I know they purchased works by Lyn A and Diane F last year...and they're not Queenslanders? Maybe its a priority but not the only criteria ???
DeleteCongratulations - that is wonderful. Your work is just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Jen - very kind! It is a nice thing for sure.
DeleteNever doubted it for a minute, F. That book is so exquisite I feel it must be viewed with hush-toned reverence. Congratulations indeed. Xx
ReplyDeleteThanks so much T - I was thrilled! It felt like the right place for it and I am ever so happy it is there...go well.
DeleteLovely. Libraries are such under-valued places, making amazing items available to the general public. I've had a soft spot for them ever since my local village librarian allowed me access to the stacks as a high school student, so I could refer to books that nobody else in the village cared about, for a science essay. On a recent trip back to the UK I was horrified to see the library bricked up and unused. A travesty. There is so much more to books - as your work clearly demonstrates - than even the wonderful words within them.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much - I share your love of libraries and the wonders within them; and within the books within. I sometimes think I would go to the barricades for libraries -they are such precious, democratic, sources of information and support and connection! Go well.
Deletefantastic ! The repetition of the words are exquisite !
ReplyDeleteWhat started out as serendipity, has become invaluable to the sentiment...go well.
